An equatorial baptism (or "Crossing the Line" ceremony) is a centuries-old maritime tradition initiating sailors or passengers crossing the equator for the first time. Novices, known as "pollywogs," are "baptized" into the realm of King Neptune, becoming "shellbacks" through fun, often messy, rituals, such as dunks, costumes, and mock trials. @highlight #facebookreels #equatorcrossing | Eugene Tabayan

Sailors aboard USS Saratoga celebrate their first crossing of the Equator with a traditional Shellback ceremony in January 1929. The lighthearted naval rite, marking the transition from “Pollywog” to “Shellback,” has bonded generations of sailors across the seven seas. #USSSaratoga #USNavy #Shellback #EquatorCrossing #NavalTradition | The Reliable Narrator

For sailors, crossing the equator is a huge achievement. The history of equator crossings is a rich and old tradition. As a sailor crosses the equator under sail, they shed their identity as a Polliwog and are reborn as Shellback. I thought that I had a ceremony downloaded on my computer but couldn’t find it so I had to write a ceremony from scratch (expect the rulers of the winds section. Credit: infinityyachtsales) I had so much fun with this ceremony and am feeling humbled and proud of myself

In a few weeks we’re going to be leaving to sail across the Pacific! This Will be our longest sail yet, and we will pass through the doldrums and cross the equator. We’ll be completely self sufficient for the entire time (no phone signal or WiFi), and will be sailing for 3 - 4 weeks straight before arriving in French Polynesia. #sailaroundtheworld #sailing #boatlife #travel #ocean #pacific #yacht #sailor #fyp #foryoupage

Iraq 2006 - 2007: During my time in Iraq 🇮🇶, my platoon and I moved bullets, bandaids, tanks, supplies, troops, food, and much more. On or around our 13th Combat Mission (Sept 30th, 2006) my Lieutenant and his vehicle was hit by two 155 rounds and 35lbs of TNT crossing an egineer bridge. Lets just say things were really bad and I was thrusted into the Convoy Commander position from that point forward! Because of that incident, HQMC - Combat Camera did a news article and filmed this footage…I r
