clement greenberg was the leading american art critic of late modernist american painting, aka abstract expressionism. his ability to feel and describe abstract painting is second to none. his pithy bitchiness is also second to none. (thats a compliment). read his essay avant garde and kitsch if you want to grasp his understanding of high/low cultural distinctions. #clementgreenberg #jaundice

In Clement Greenberg’s famous essay ‘Modernist Painting’ he connected modern art and modern science as belonging to the same “cultural tendency” born out of the Enlightenment. But the critique of everything down to its most stripped down parts & essence has excluded out-of-the-box creativity and divine inspiration, which has been responsible for all of our incredible artworks and surpasses the limits of human “reason.” #thewaronbeauty #beauty #arthistory

How to Know Your Topspin Serve Is Correct (Clement Guide) 1. The ball dips sharply inside the baseline. A true topspin serve travels fast but drops early because the spin pulls the ball downward. 2. You can see a clear “curve-and-drop” flight path. The ball starts on a forward arc, then suddenly drops in the last 1–2 meters before landing. 3. Your opponent is forced to lift the return. When the topspin is strong, the returner must swing upward to control the ball, often popping it up. 4. The bou

That’s a very solid way to conceptualize court zones in pickleball. Let me break it down a bit more clearly with why pros follow this approach: Zone 1 – Baseline (Drive Zone) Purpose: Hit heavy drives, deep shots, or topspins to put opponents on defense. Strategy: Force weak returns that make it easier to move forward. Key: Accuracy > Power. Hitting hard but off-target loses the advantage. Zone 2 – Transition (Mid-court) Purpose: Safer play, reset the point, or prepare for the kitchen. Strategy:

A two-twoey dink is a two-handed backhand dink played softly and controlled at the NVZ. Key pro fundamentals Two hands on paddle → stability disguise Compact swing → no backswing Soft grip (3–4/10) → touch over power Paddle slightly open → safe net clearance Contact & placement Contact in front of body Brush slightly upward (light topspin) Target cross-court kitchen corner or opponent’s backhand foot When pros use it Under pressure at the kitchen Against fast hands battles To neutralize pace and

Here are the three main types of pro-level pickleball drop shots — explained simply so you can understand how they work, the paddle position, the movement, and the purpose. 1. Scoop Drop (Soft Neutral Drop) Used by: Ben Johns, Anna Leigh, Riley Newman (control style) How it works You “scoop” the ball up with a soft lifting motion. It has no spin or very light underspin. Floaty, high-arc ball that lands softly in the kitchen. Paddle Position Slightly open face (about 10–20°). Paddle angle feels l

How to Master the Drop in Pickleball — 3 Easy Steps (Pro Player Method) 1. Early preparation & balance Pro players prepare early for every drop. Turn your shoulders as soon as you read the ball Stay low with bent knees and good balance Keep the paddle in front of your body Early preparation gives you control and touch. 2. Soft grip & smooth swing A good drop is about feel, not power. Use a soft grip (3–4 out of 10) Swing low to high with a smooth, compact motion Let the paddle lift the ball inst

A common mistake when hitting the backhand roll is finishing across your body instead of lifting upward. To play like the pros, finish your paddle upward, this helps create topspin and gives the ball better net clearance. | Greenberg Cle Ment

In pickleball, for a forehand drive, the paddle contact location should be: In front of your body, slightly to the side of your hitting hip Key points (pro fundamentals): Contact point: Out in front (not beside or behind you) Height: Between knee to waist for best power and control Distance from body: About 1 forearm length away Paddle face: Slightly closed for topspin, neutral for flat power Body position: Side-on stance, weight moving forward Why this matters: Earlier contact = more power, bet

In pickleball, the hybrid drive-drop (sometimes called a drip or drive-drop) is used between a full drive and a soft drop. Its purpose is to apply pressure while still giving you time to move to the kitchen. What is the Hybrid Drive-Drop? A medium-pace shot with topspin, hit lower and softer than a drive but faster than a drop. It dips into the kitchen or transition zone and is harder to attack than a normal drop. Purpose of the Hybrid Drive-Drop ✅ Safer than a full drive ✅ More pressure than a
