Amid an unprecedented uptick in brush fires and a drought warning, it rained in New York City for the first time in weeks Thursday.

Heavy rain and snow is expected across the tri-state area on Thursday, a day after City officials declared the fist drought warning in over two decades.

New York City declared a drought warning on Monday, its first in 22 years, as the Northeast deals with severe dry conditions and brush fires during a historically dry autumn.

While an inch of rain is expected to fall by the end of Friday, meteorologists say it still won’t be enough to undo the region’s drought conditions.

Dry conditions and a lack of rain have pushed NYC officials to declare a drought warning. This comes after a drought watch went into effect just a little over two weeks ago. This is the second of three levels of water conservation in the city.
