A ceasefire went into effect at 4 a.m. local time Wednesday morning after Israel's Cabinet approved the U.S.-backed proposal to end the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah after prolonged negotiations.

Analysis: Now that Hezbollah and Israel have agreed to a truce, the question remains of where that leaves Hamas and the war in Gaza, where authorities say 44,000 people have been killed.

The conflict ended with a ceasefire between Israel and Iran brokered by the U.S. and Nabih Berri, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, rubber-stamped by Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and backed by American guarantees to Israel.
