One team, to be exact. F1 announced on Monday that an agreement in principle has been reached and that a General Motors-Cadillac team will be joining the grid for the 2026 season. The announcement brings to a close months of debate and discussion over a potential 11th team on the grid.

The Cadillac F1 team will utilize power units built by Ferrari until GM begins producing its own engines in 2028.

General Motors has a deal to join Formula 1 under the Cadillac brand and participate in the FIA Formula One World Championship for the 2026 season, the automaker announced on Monday. Formula 1 says it has accepted in principle and will move GM and Cadillac's application forward to become the 11th team on the grid — making it the first new team to join since 2016.
