Bloomberg reports that Sony is "in the early stages" of work on a fully portable console that can play PlayStation 5 software. The device is still "likely years away from launch," according to "people familiar with its development" that spoke to Bloomberg anonymously.

PS5 portable rumors have been circulating recently, suggesting that Sony is returning to the handheld market with a device that plays games natively.

After watching Nintendo dominate the gaming landscape over the last eight years with a hybrid game console, Sony is getting ready to challenge the Switch with a new handheld console of its own. Bloomberg reports that Sony is in the early stages of developing a portable game console capable of playing PS5 games natively.

Sony will be building on the design of the PlayStation Portal device for its handheld console, according to Bloomberg. According to the publication's sources, the Portal,
