Mayor Eric Adams said that “New York City is flying into the future” with a new NYPD public safety program that will deploy over 100 drones to monitor areas across the city, including Central Park, from the sky.

Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD brass announced on Wednesday a new drone first responder program focused on Central Park and other areas of the Big Apple. According to Mayor Adams, the new drone pilot program will see several aircraft stationed at several police precincts throughout the city,

The NYPD said it is now deploying drones to speed up response times to crimes, which means in some cases, a device will be first on the scene instead of an officer. CBS News New York's Zinnia Maldonado explains how the program works.
