Once the cooking was done, the more than 2,000 pounds of turkey and mashed potatoes as well as the more than 1,500 pounds of green beans and cranberry sauce, plus desserts and rolls, were packaged up into hot boxes.

Thursday morning, dozens of volunteers met at the Salvation Army on Beasley Road to pack meals for needy families in the capital city. Volunteers made the choice to serve the community on a day when many are spending time cooking with family. Some of those volunteers included a youth ministry from Mt. Hood in Clinton.
