SOMERVILLE, Mass. — A drag queen story hour in Somerville had to be canceled on Saturday due to a bomb threat. According to the Boston Globe, there were protestors and counter-protestors outside of the Central Library before the event was cancelled. The Cambridge bomb squad responded and searched the building but said there was no bomb.

Subsequently, a bomb threat forced the evacuation of the library and the cancellation of the story hour. No bomb was found but the threat has prompted a police investigation. It remains unclear if the threat was related to the protests and police have not yet determined if the threat was a hate crime.

The threat came in around the time that the story hour was set to begin Saturday afternoon at the city's central library, according to a city official.

The threat, which is now under investigation, followed a protest and demonstration of support at the library.
