Richard Curtis has revealed that he once pitched an idea for a sequel to his hit 1999 romcom Notting Hill, but star Julia Roberts turned it down. The beloved film tells the story of a romance between London bookseller Will (Hugh Grant) and American film star Anna (Roberts), who meet by chance in the titular West London area.

Speaking to IndieWire, the Bafta winner revealed that he’d planned to do the same with a “mini sequel” to Notting Hill. “I tried doing one with Notting Hill where they were going to get divorced,” he explained.
