Since it began early Friday morning, the lake effect storm has dumped several feet of snow in some areas. The snow fell at such an unrelenting pace that street crews have been unable to keep pace. Hundreds of holiday travelers were stranded on major highways Friday like i-90 and had to abandon their cars.

While a lake-effect snow warning is in place for Erie County until Tuesday, the worst weather is likely Saturday, complicating Friday snowfall recovery.

Erie County is under a disaster emergency, the city has enacted a snow emergency and PennDOT has restrictions on parts of interstates, 79, 90 and 86.

Heavy snow built up around parts of northwest Pennsylvania on Saturday, November 30, as bands of snow continued to pummel the region.This footage was posted to Instagram by Kevin Joseph, who said he filmed it from his hotel along Interstate 90 and Perry Highway in Erie County early Saturday.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced a travel advisory has been issued for a portion of the county due to lake effect snow.

An intense lake effect is forecast through the rest of the weekend, causing as much as 1 to 2 feet of additional snow in some areas.

Post-Thanksgiving travel plans were thrown into trouble as almost 30 inches of snow fell along Lake Erie, closing a stretch of I-90 and stranding motorists.
