A prisoner convicted of murder escaped from police custody Monday and a search is ongoing, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. A man found 4-month-old and 5-month-old baby girls in a ditch outside his home after they were kidnapped in a vehicle earlier in the day.

The FBI and Coventry police conducted an investigation near a wooded area on Monday. According to an FBI spokesperson, its officials were assisting Coventry police with law enforcement activity.
