The night sky on Tuesday will treat us to a partial lunar eclipse during a supermoon. It’s an astronomical wonder that almost anyone in the Western Hemisphere can experience, and it’s the latest reminder that our home planet is part of a bigger cosmic system.

As part of the Starry Nights Initiative, Utah State Parks will host viewing events for the September supermoon and partial lunar eclipse at Dead Horse Point State Park and Goblin Valley State Park in southeastern Utah. Both events will include short hikes.

The skies will light up Tuesday night with a double lunar phenomenon: the Harvest supermoon and a partial lunar eclipse. Supermoons are full moons that appear larger because they happen in tandem with the lunar orbit’s closest approach to earth.
