AUSTIN (KXAN)— Officers and emergency staff across Central Texas said they’ve been responding to dozens of crashes since early Tuesday morning. As snow and ice accumulated on roads, ice thickened and created slick and dangerous conditions.

Leftover wet spots, snow and ice are expected to refreeze due to freezing temperatures, creating potentially hazardous conditions for drivers.

After TxDOT posted the emergency closure to X on Wednesday, we called to find out the reason. According to TxDOT officials, when snowplows were clearing out paths, they accidentally scraped up part of the highway stripping and reflective markers.
