Republican activists launched efforts Tuesday seeking to make sweeping changes to Nebraska's elections, including one proposal to eliminate the "Blue Dot."

The group, headlined by former leaders of the Republican Party, argues that the initiatives are about reclaiming the state’s voice and promoting government accountability.

Two ballot initiatives were announced Tuesday. One would switch Nebraska to "winner-take-all" presidential elections. Another would end the use of vote-counting and voting machines.

The city of Valley will mail out ballots for its special recall election next week. That election will be by mail only. Ballots will be mailed in 6-by-9 envelopes with return envelopes included. Voters will need to provide voter ID information and sign the back of the return envelope for that ballot to count.
