SEPTA is touting a 33% decrease in serious crimes across the transit network. The chief of SEPTA Transit Police says he believes it is directly affected by an increase in the number of officers and a dedicated effort to improve the rider experience.

Michael Spooner died at the scene of the crash at South Front Street and Washington Avenue.

SEPTA on Thursday reported its largest one-year drop in serious crime, and touted their once short-staffed police force that is now its largest in over a decade.

"Jackie Pettyjohn was a trailblazer for female train engineers. SEPTA is grateful for her 40 years of service, and we wish her all the best in her retirement," the transit agency wrote in a statement to CBS News Philadelphia on Saturday.

According to investigators, the couple was attempting to cross Front Street in the crosswalk when they were hit by the bus.
