Singer Marianne Faithfull, who famously dated Mick Jagger and rebooted her career after it was nearly derailed by drug addiction, has died.
Tributes to Faithfull were lead by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, who co-wrote her debut single “As Tears Go By”. On Instagram, Jagger posted a series of vintage photographs beginning with one of himself and Faithfull from 1967, when they were dating.
“I’ve done everything I want to do and gone everywhere I want to go,” Faithfull said in 2013, looking back on her monumental, roller-coaster ride of a life. Far more than mere muse or cautionary tale, she was both larger than life and always uniquely herself.
The legendary singer-songwriter Marianne Faithfull died Thursday at the age of 78 at her home in London. Dubbed one of the best singers of all time, Rolling Stone described Faithfull as an artist “who transcended ‘it girl’ status in the Sixties with a stunning second act as a singer-songwriter of earned hard wisdom.”
