Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry was in Washington, D.C., Wednesday to ask for help to lower commercial tolls planned for the new Interstate 10-Calcasieu River Bridge in Lake Charles. He also spoke about the need for a streamlined federal environmental review process and help in building the I-10 Bridge in Baton Rouge.

But as people braced to move, confusion and anxiety spread Tuesday through homeless encampments like the one on Earhart Boulevard beneath the U.S. 90 overpass — the very site where the Landry administration relocated people after a set of similar sweeps before a Taylor Swift concert series last year.

Gov. Jeff Landry declared a state of emergency Saturday in preparation for the winter weather expected to hit Louisiana early next week, when snow is expected to accumulate in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued extreme cold warnings for the state in effect from Monday through Thursday.

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana state troopers began Monday notifying residents of a state-sanctioned unhoused encampment under the Pontchartrain Expressway that they will soon have to relocate, per an order from Gov.

Pursuant to Governor Landry’s Jan. 1, 2025, executive order, the State of Louisiana will work to secure state-maintained interstates, bridges, and transportation lines in addition to ensuring that public streets, sidewalks, and other right of ways in Orleans Parish are in clean, accessible and safe condition.
