The Office of the Inspector General is investigating after a Waterbury police detective was shot in the thigh while investigating attempted carjackings in Waterbury last week and fired back but did not hit the suspect,

Body and surveillance camera video from an officer-involved shooting in Waterbury was released on Monday. The Office of Inspector General released three videos from an incident that happened on Clairmont Street on Thursday.

In the first attempted carjacking, Waterbury Lt. Ryan Bessette said a suspect pointed a gun at the victim’s head and demanded they exit the vehicle, but the victim managed to drive away. In the second incident, multiple suspects who were armed with firearms exited a Ford Explorer and demanded the victim’s car keys, Bessette said.

Officials said the shooting happened when officers with the auto theft task force confronted suspects Thursday evening.
