The group of North Carolina elected executive branch positions known as the Council of State will have equal numbers of Democrats and Republicans come January.

Rachel Hunt is projected to win the North Carolina Lieutenant Governor’s race. Hunt received 49.44% of the vote to Weatherman’s 47.75% of the vote. A total of 93,585 separates the pair. The Associated Press called the race around lunchtime on Wednesday.

Democrat Rachel Hunt is leading Republican Hal Weatherman in the race to be North Carolina’s next lieutenant governor. Though the state Board of Elections website indicates that all precincts have reported,

She will succeed Republican incumbent Mark Robinson, who lost his bid for governor to Democratic state attorney general Josh Stein.

In a close race for North Carolina’s lieutenant governor, Democrat Rachel Hunt has come out victorious. Hunt pulled away with the win by gaining 49% of the state’s votes. Her opponent, Republican Hal Weatherman, managed to clinch 48% of those votes.

It is the only official in North Carolina tasked with responsibilities in both the executive and legislative branches of the state government.
