Minnesota is getting a smattering of snow Wednesday, with expected totals ranging from a trace in the Twin Cities to multiple inches out west.

Snow is falling in much of Minnesota on Wednesday, which could make for some slick roads and a challenging commute.

Wednesday marked the first snowfall of the season that affected most of Minnesota, with up to four inches of snow reported in parts of the state. Light snow started early Wednesday and continued falling most of the day, with the highest amounts reported in the Moorhead area, with Hawley receiving four inches.

Winter weather continues to ramp up this autumn with snow falling in the northern Rocky Mountains and the far northern Plains this weekend.

Highs will be in the low to mid-50s to start the workweek. Rain will develop and move northward through the late afternoon and evening hours, causing wet travel for anyone out and about after 5 p.m. Rain totals will be anywhere from half an inch to over an inch.

A Brainerd man died in a crash in hazardous conditions during Wednesday's snowfall in Crow Wing County. The Minnesota State Patrol says Stephen Moran, 31, of Brainerd, was driving his Ford F-350 north on Highway 371 near Lennox Road in Fort Ripley Township when he left the road and rolled into the median at around 5:45 p.m.
