The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that Cyprus’ law enforcement authorities failed to live up to their obligation to thoroughly and effectively investigate a British teenager’s claims that she had been gang-raped by a group of Israelis while on a 2019 vacation in a popular resort town.

(Reuters) - Cyprus failed in its legal duty to investigate a British woman's allegation in 2019 that she had been gang-raped by Israeli tourists on the holiday island, the European Court of Human Rights said on Thursday.

The woman was 19 when she reported being raped by 12 men at her hotel in Ayia Napa. But after she retracted her report - which she said she was forced to do - she was convicted of "public mischief".
