The night sky on Tuesday will treat us to a partial lunar eclipse during a supermoon. It’s an astronomical wonder that almost anyone in the Western Hemisphere can experience, and it’s the latest reminder that our home planet is part of a bigger cosmic system.

Not only is September's full moon also a so-called "supermoon" because of its size and brightness, but it's also due to be eclipsed by Earth.

You can catch the supermoon starting on Tuesday, September 17, into the wee hours of Wednesday, September 18. According to NASA, penumbral eclipse – when the moon starts to pass through the softer part of the Earth’s shadow – begins at 8:41 PM on Tuesday.
