The National Weather Service is asking folks to take proper cold weather precautions and protect the four P’s: People, pets, pipes and plants.

After record-breaking numbers in 2023, the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo saw a decrease in visitors in 2024 — with wintry weather early in the show cited as a factor. This year’s show runs Jan. 17 through Feb.

Ice and snow are accumulating on bridges and overpasses of major highways, according to TxDOT. Motorists should drive with caution and expect traffic delays.

An arctic front will bring cold temperatures to Fort Worth this weekend. The National Weather Service Fort Worth is tracking the front that is likely to arrive in the region by late Friday, Jan. 17, into early Saturday, Jan. 18. A quick batch of showers may accompany the front, but rainfall totals are likely to be low.

There is now a 60-70% chance that our entire forecast area observes at least measurable snowfall,” the National Weather Service in Fort Worth said Sunday.

The winter storm warning in effect for North Texas has been downgraded to a winter weather advisory, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Temperatures in the Fort Worth area remain around freezing, and the precipitation could cause a small amount of additional ice to accumulate bridges and overpasses.
