CHICAGO ( NewsNation) — The U.S. air traffic control system is reaching a breaking point as the ongoing government shutdown deepens severe staffing shortages. The Federal Aviation Administration has been forced to implement ground stops and cause flight delays nationwide to maintain safety.
Continued staffing shortages in air traffic control facilities around the country were again causing delays at airports on Friday as the government shutdown neared the one-month mark.
Despite delays at some airports caused by staff shortages, government officials and aviation experts say flying is safe.
