An amber weather warning is in place across most of north Wales as Storm Éowyn hits the country.

Storm Éowyn is hurtling towards the UK bringing a disruptive mix of heavy rain, snow and winds of potentially 90mph. This is the fifth named storm of the season and comes just weeks after Storm Darragh wrought chaos in parts of the UK in December.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Mike Silverstone said: “The strongest gusts are likely to be felt across parts of Northern Ireland, northern England, north-western Wales and western Scotland, where exposed sites could get gusts in excess of 80mph, which has the potential to cause impacts for those in these areas.

Storm Éowyn – pronounced "ay-oh-win" – and the fifth named storm of the season will undergo rapid development during Thursday as it moves across the Atlantic. It will be fuelled by a very powerful jet stream which is fast moving air high in the atmosphere where wind speeds are around 260mph (418km/h).

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for wind for parts of Scotland as Storm Eowyn sweeps in. The first named storm of 2025, Eowyn is forecast to bring strong winds across most of the country, including up to 90mph in some areas.
