Authorities are investigating what led to a fire that tore through the Spier Falls Dam in the town of Moreau, Saratoga County on the Hudson River Saturday Sept. 14, 2024. MOREAU — A fire at the Spier Falls Dam on the Hudson River burned for hours Saturday as over as nearly a dozen fire companies tried to bring it under control.

Brookfield Renewable, owner of the hydroelectric facility at the Spier Falls dam, has released its first public statement so far. The company told NEWS10 that the powerhouse was destroyed in the fire on Saturday.

Crews are battling a large fire at the Spier Falls Dam, a hydroelectric dam in the Moreau Lake State Park. Corinth Fire Department is among the many fire companies at the scene. One witness told NewsChannel 13 he saw up to fire trucks respond to the scene.
