Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter's body arrived in Washington on Tuesday where three days of official mourning will include lying in state at the U.S. Capitol ahead of a Thursday funeral.

The late 39th president and Nobel Peace Prize winner will be honored on a national day of mourning, President Joe Biden declared.

On Thursday, late President Carter is set to depart the U.S. Capitol at 9 a.m. and travel to the Washington National Cathedral for a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. followed by the National Funeral Services at 10 a.m. Then, Carter and his family will return to Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, where they will board back to Georgia.
