Floods and landslides in Myanmar caused by Typhoon Yagi and monsoon rains have killed at least 226, state media say

In the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, the region's death toll has surged past 500 as floods and landslides hit Myanmar.

The accounting of casualties has been slow, in part due to communication difficulties with the affected areas.

At least 74 people have died and scores more are still missing in Myanmar following heavy flooding and landslides caused by Typhoon Yagi, state media reported on Sunday.

The death toll, reported in the state-run Myanma Alinn, was almost seven times Friday’s initial total of 33, with strong prospects of it continuing to rise.

Rescuers in Myanmar reported finding bodies swept away by the powerful storm, which left a trail of destruction there and in neighboring countries.

At least 236 people have been confirmed dead after Typhoon Yagi caused severe flooding in several regions of Myanmar. Some 77 people remain missing, the state-run Global New Light of Myanmar reported on Tuesday,
