Sunday marked Katie Florio's first marathon win in the seven she's run. A Center City resident and Ardmore native, Katie Florio has been running for a long time — since fourth grade, she said. And she's competed at some of the highest levels, including running in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the marathon twice.

Katie Florio was overwhelmed with emotion Sunday morning after crossing the finish line. The Center City resident became only the second local woman in more than three decades to win the Philadelphia Marathon.

Florio is the second woman from Philadelphia to win the race in recent years. On the men’s side, it was another winner from the Keystone State.
