Israel confirmed that it agreed to a ceasefire proposal by President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, a day after Trump said the country had “agreed to the necessary conditions” for a ceasefire in the war in Gaza.

Gideon Saar, the Israeli foreign minister, cited “positive signs” in the long-moribund cease-fire talks to end the war in Gaza and free the hostages held there.

Displaced Palestinians have called for Hamas to accept a ceasefire in its war with Israel, warning of "catastrophic" consequences if they refuse, as the conflict reaches the two year mark.
