Shreyas Iyer has become the second highest-paid player in IPL history after Punjab Kings purchased him for a whopping Rs. 26.75 crore in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. Shreyas led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the IPL title last season.

The auction for IPL 2025 started on a roaring note as after Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant bagged an all-time record price.

The two-day IPL 2025 mega auction which recently concluded in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia saw 10 franchises spending a total of 639.15 crores. The entire amount was spent on 182 players that were sold in the auction which also included 62 foreign players.

Known for his explosive batting, Rishabh Pant created history by becoming the most expensive player in IPL history. After parting ways with Delhi Capitals, Pant was snapped up by the Lucknow Super Giants for a record Rs 27 crore. Speculation is rife that the left-hander might take over as LSG's captain.

The 2023 IPL-winning captain, Shreyas Iyer, has once again made headlines by setting a new record in the 2024 IPL mega auction.

Cricket's commercial behemoth, the IPL, raised the bar once again, generating eye-popping bids for the likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer besides providing the opportunity of a lifetime to first-timers including 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
