A fifth person has died from injuries suffered during a massive explosion of illegal fireworks at a Honolulu home over New Year's that prompted Hawaii authorities to reevaluate how they enforce the state's fireworks laws,

The Hughes Fire has now burned 8,096 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties since igniting late Wednesday morning near Castaic Lake, according to Cal Fire. As more than 4,000 firefighters responded to the scene, an air tanker and four helicopters attacked the blaze from the air, preventing it from jumping nearby Interstate 5, officials said.

A 29-year-old man who died nearly a month after sustaining serious burns was among six victims recovering at the Arizona Burn Center.
