A statewide burn ban is in affect for New York until November 30th. New York Governor Kathy Hochul spoke on November 12 about the burn ban and the reason behind it. There are wildfires happening in southeastern New York and in northern New Jersey.

The Jennings Creek Wildfire has burned through thousands of acres in northern New Jersey and New York's Orange County, claiming the life of Pomona man Dariel Vasquez, who was working as an aide with the New York State Parks and Recreation Department's Wildland Fire Crew when a tree fell on him in Sterling State Forest Nov. 9.

A New York state-wide burn ban went into effect Tuesday, and will continue until Nov. 30, due to increased risk of wildfires as drought conditions linger.
