Extreme cold temperatures have settled in over most of the state. Winter storm warnings will go into effect on Tuesday. Precipitation — snow, sleet, freezing rain, or a wintry mix — will begin in southwest Alabama Tuesday morning and continue through the day, moving eastward.

Approximately 400 members of the Alabama National Guard are being activated ahead of a storm system that will include severe freezing weather, snow, and ice affecting much of the southern part of the state.

Montgomery Public Schools and Autauga County Schools both announced Sunday that classes will be all virtual on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 21 and 22. "The district will be virtual on both days and all after-school activities, which include athletic events, will be canceled," MPS announced in a release.
