Quick visit to Honokalani while driving the Road to Hana did not disappoint. Beautiful beach even on an overcast/rainy day. Amazing how the waves have "tumbled" the black lava rock into smooth stones… Full review by AndyATexas
We will be staying in Lahaina, is the drive difficult to Hana if you use a rental car? Would paying for a day trip excursion to Hana be better? What fees are there if you drive yourself, parking, park enterence, etc. What stops along the way do you recommend going to or staying away from? Thanks

there are no fees as most of the attractions are just off the side of the road. the drive to Hana is very difficult and un enjoyable for the person driving. I personally would recommend staying away from it all, but my wife and I both hated every minute of the highway, and from what I have read on here, we are in the minority. If I was going to do it again (which I wouldn't) I would have to say the tour would be the only way I could do it.
